Bellingham Wingfoil Hand Wing Guide (Size + Model)

Pacific North Sports | Quick, shop-tested wing sizing advice for local conditions.

1) Bellingham Wind Reality (What to Size For)

Bellingham winds are typically 10–15 mph in summer and 20–30+ mph the rest of the year.

That means Bellingham riders want a reliable high-wind wing as their daily driver, plus one light-wind wing for summer.

2) Best First Wing Size (Beginner Recommendation)

Most beginners progress fastest with a stable, forgiving wing that matches Bellingham’s stronger wind season.

·         Under 150 lb: 4m–5m

·         150–190 lb: 5m (best first wing)

·         190–230 lb: 5m–6m

·         230 lb+: 6m–7m

Rule of thumb: if you ride mostly fall–spring, don’t oversize. Control matters. If you’re a warm weather riders GO BIG!

3) Bellingham Wind-to-Wing Size Cheat Sheet (Most Riders 160–210 lb)

·         10–15 mph (summer): 6m

·         15–20 mph: 5m

·         20–25 mph (prime season): 4m–5m

·         25–30 mph: 3.5m–4m

·         30+ mph: 3m

Heavier riders: add +1m. Lighter riders: subtract -1m.

4) Choosing Your Wing Model (What We Recommend)

Bellingham conditions reward wings with great stability, depower, and high-wind control.

Duotone Unit (Freeride all-around / great range)

·         Best for: freeride, learning, jumping, progression

·         Why it works in Bellingham: great high-wind stability and strong upwind performance

·         Top picks: 4m and 5m as daily drivers

Duotone Float (Wave/drift specialist)

·         Best for: wave riding, drift/flag-out control

·         Why it shines in Bellingham: strong wind + swell makes drift performance extremely useful

·         Top picks: 4m/5m depending on rider weight

Slingshot Slingwing V5 (Durable, easy to learn on)

·         Best for: first-time wingers, tough gear, value

·         Why it works here: predictable power and durability for windy learning sessions

North Nova (Smooth, balanced freeride)

·         Best for: clean handling, comfortable freeride, steady power delivery

·         Great for riders who want control in gusts and clean transitions

5) Bellingham Quiver Recommendation (2-Wing Setup)

Most local riders end up with a 2-wing quiver: a strong-wind daily driver and a summer light-wind wing.

·         Main wing (most of the year): 4m–5m

·         Summer wing: 6m

·         Examples: 150–190 lb = 5m + 4m | 180–220 lb = 5m + 4m plus 6m for summer

·         We recommend a 3-wing quiver if you want to ride all year…the final size will be a 3m or 3.5m for the really windy or gusty days which can be awesome but not doable on a 4-5m wing.

6) The 3 Mistakes to Avoid

·         Buying too big for fall/winter/spring (overpowered = slow learning)

·         Buying too small for summer light-wind learning and riding.   GO BIG!

·         Sizing only off gusts—Bellingham can spike quickly

Tell us your weight + experience level and we’ll recommend the exact wing sizes for your quiver.  The power you feel from the wind is exponential to the wind speed meaning that as the wind increases its power increases by a large amount on the upper end of things.  This means that in light winds you need to GO BIG but is higher winds it is important to choose the right wing.
